LP Racing Audis, Pirri and Erhart head first free practice in Valencia

LP Racing got their penultimate round of the Fanatec GT2 European Series off to a strong start by topping the timing screens in both the Pro-Am and Am class standings in free practice at Circuit Ricardo Tormo, Valencia this morning.

Team Principal, Luca Pirri set the bar early on in the 60-minute session, setting a time of 1:36.071 on fresh Pirelli rubber aboard the #88 Audi R8 LMS GT2. In a dominant session for the team, Elia Erhart was the initial chaser before closing out the first official track outing of the weekend as fastest in Am.

After the hallway mark, the #11 PK Carsport Audi of Nicolas Saelens and Stienes Longin made strong progress, constantly improving to move up the order and finish the session second overall, 0.459s off Pirri.

Current Am leader Henry Hassid, who has an outside shot at clinching the Am title this weekend, clocked in fourth fastest in his #67 LP Racing Audi, a mere one thousandth of a second ahead of Anders Fjordbach in the Brabham BT63 GT2 Concept car.

Last year’s championship-winning #5 High Class Racing Audi completed the top six, holding off the second PK Carsport car of Peter Guelinckx and Bert Longin by 0.068s.

Then came the trio of True Racing by Reiter engineering KTM X-BOWs led by Sehdi Sarmini, with Stefan Rosina, who shares the Pro-Am lead with Saelens and Longin, ninth. The #17 True Racing by Reiter Engineering car completed the top 10.

The second one-hour free practice session is scheduled for 14:40, ahead qualifying at 17:15.
