The 2023 Fanatec GT2 European Series hit the halfway mark following the third round of the season at Circuit Dijon-Prenois two weeks ago.
Before we head to Portugal for round four, let’s look at our “Mid-season Notebook” of fun stats and facts from the year so far:
1. Five world-class brands have graced the Fanatec GT2 European Series grid to date - Audi, KTM, Lamborghini, Mercedes-AMG and Porsche
2. That number is set to grow to six, following the global reveal of the Maserati GT2 at the CrowdStrike 24 Hours of Spa earlier this month
3. 11 of Europe’s elite GT racing teams have entered this year’s campaign - Akkodis ASP, CMR, Ebimotors, Fanatec by HRT, Haupt Racing Team, Iron Lynx, LP Racing, Manthey Racing, PK Carsport, RTR Projects, True Racing
4. 30 drivers representing 11 nations have competed across the first three rounds
5. 16 cars have graced the grid so far
6. Audi, KTM, Lamborghini, Mercedes-AMG and Porsche have all claimed pole position honours across the first six races
7. The closest qualifying session in the series’ short history played out in round two in Austria. Just 0.194s separated the top four cars and the brands of Audi, KTM and Mercedes-AMG, while less than a second spanned the top eight
8. Audi has claimed the most pole positions thus far, with six in Pro-Am
9. In terms of qualifying performance, Henry Hassid and Pierre Kaffer are tied on two Pro-Am pole positions each so far this season
10. Leonardo Gorini is the only Am driver to take class pole position honours more than once. The Ebimotors driver topped both qualifying sessions in Dijon
11. Four different brands have claimed race wins in the three double-header events – Audi, KTM, Mercedes-AMG and Porsche
12. Mauro and Benjamin Ricci made history at the Red Bull Ring with the first ever race win for the Mercedes-AMG GT2
13. It was also the closest race finish this season, with the Akkodis ASP duo seizing victory by 0.3 seconds
14. The first six races produced five different Pro-Am winners. Only Peter Guelinckx and Stienes Longin have managed to win more than once, with victory at Monza and Dijon
15. Jan Krabec holds the overall and Am record for the most class wins with four, having claimed category honours at every round – including double victory at Monza.
