The stars of the Fanatec GT2 European Series were in London on Friday evening (24 November) to celebrate their success at the annual SRO Motorsports Group Awards.
The gala ceremony was staged at Old Billingsgate, once a centre of London's commercial power and now a luxurious events space located on the north bank of the Thames. It drew some of the biggest names in international motor racing, with the GT2 contingent joined by champions from SRO series around the globe. Attendees were treated to spectacular performances throughout the evening, culminating in the prize-giving ceremony.
Henry Hassid and Anthony Beltoise collected their Pro-Am drivers' title, the LP Racing Audi duo having edged a thrilling four-way fight at the season finale. They sealed the championship by a single point, beating runner-up Reinhard Kofler (MZR KTM) and third-placed Peter Guelinckx and Stienes Longin (PK Carsport Audi) to the prize. This marked a second successive GT2 title for Hassid, who conquered the Am class in 2022.
His successor was also crowned during the evening. Jan Krabec took Am honours after a season that brought no fewer than seven race wins, including clean sweeps at Monza and Circuit Paul Ricard. Despite his string of victories, the RTR Projects KTM driver had to work hard to beat Klaus Angerhofer (True Racing KTM) to the title, while Sehdi Sarmini (True Racing KTM) was classified third.
With the awards compete, the paddock can enjoy a well-earned rest before switching focus to 2024. The fourth season of the Fanatec GT2 European Series Powered by Pirelli will kick off at French Grand Prix venue Circuit Paul Ricard on 5-7 April, where it will be joined by Fanatec GT World Challenge Europe Powered by AWS and the GT4 European Series Powered by RAFA Racing Club for a packed weekend of GT action.
