Karim Ojjeh tops disrupted FP2 at Hungaroring, Klaus Dieter Frers leads way again in Iron Cup

1 September 2018

Blancpain GT Sports Club leader Karim Ojjeh (#2 Boutsen Ginion BMW M6 GT3) showed no sign of being conservative this weekend, as he topped free practice two at the Hungaroring, ahead of AF Corse’s Angélique Detavernier (#55 Ferrari 488 GT3). Klaus Dieter Frers (#3 Artega Rennsport Ferrari 488 GT3) was quickest in the Iron Cup class, as he continues his fine form.

Karim Ojjeh made his mark early in the session, before Jürgen Häring (#66 Herberth Motorsport Porsche 991 GT3 R) hit the wall on the run down to Turn 13, bringing out the red flags at the halfway stage.

Practice got back underway with just five minutes remaining, as the field focused on maximising track time in preparation for qualifying.

Angélique Detavernier got closest to the Saudi Arabian driver, 0.727 seconds adrift, with Patrick Van Glabeke (#488 AF Corse Ferrari 488 GT3) showing he should be in a podium battle this afternoon after going third fastest.

Despite crashing, Jürgen Häring remained fourth quickest and second in the Titanium Cup class, as Iron Cup leader Klaus Dieter Frers made it inside the overall top-five with a late improvement.

After struggling earlier in the morning, Mario Cordoni (#70 AF Corse Ferrari 488 GT3) improved to sixth overall, but will hope for further gains this afternoon if he’s to stop Karim Ojjeh winning the title this weekend.

Stephen Earle (#111 Kessel Racing Ferrari 488 GT3) was quickest amongst the Iron Cup runners early on, but failed to improve and ended the session seventh overall, ahead of Edward Lewis Brauner (#991 Herberth Motorsport Porsche 991 GT3 R) and Louis-Philippe Soenen (#50 AF Corse Ferrari 488 GT3).

Having shown strong pace in the morning, Coach McKansy (#17 HP Racing International Lamborghini Huracan GT3) was unable to fight for the top spot after an early right-rear puncture brought him into the pits.

Roberto Rayneri (#60 GDL Racing Mercedes SLS AMG GT3) was 11th overall and fourth in the Iron Cup class, with FP1 pacesetter Kenny Habul (#751 AKKA ASP Mercedes-AMG GT3) not partaking in the session.

Next up will be qualifying at 13:35 (local time), before the all-important Qualifying Race gets underway later this afternoon. You can follow all the action via our live timings, with the Qualifying and Main Races live streamed on YouTubeFacebook and the website.
