Austin, TX - Titanium class driver James Sofronas and GT3 Overall class pilot Jason Daskalos scored the GT Sports Club series poles at Circuit of the Americas (COTA) Saturday morning. Ryan Gates was the fastest GT2 competitor.
Saturday morning's 30-minute qualifying session was split into two 15-minute heats to determine the grids for both Saturday's and Sunday's races.
Early on in the first heat to determine the starting grid for Saturday's race, Daskalos, in the #27 Daskalos Motorsports Audi R8 LMS Ultra went to the top with a 2:10.831, followed by 311RS Motorsport's Gates in his #311 Porsche 911 GT2 RS CS (2:11.228). Sofronas in the #14 GMG Racing Audi R8 LMS Ultra then made a statement going to a 2:07.311, tops overall.
Daskalos closed the gap on Sofronas a couple of laps later with a 2:08.506, while Gates improved to a 2:11.228. Sofronas then set the bar higher with a 2:06.832 and his top time held to the checkered.
In the second heat to determine starting positions for Sunday's race, Daskalos went to the top with a 2:09.379, while Gates posted a 2:10.574 to secure the overall and GT2 poles respectively at the checkered.
