- McLaren, Ferrari, Porsche, Pagani and Lamborghini furnish star-studded entry list.
- Further events for 2022-23 alongside Curbstone Events now under consideration in Europe, America, Asia and the Middle East.
The GT1 Sports Club powered by Curbstone Events staged a successful inaugural meeting at Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya this weekend (10-11 October).
An all-star entry list featuring some of the world’s most incredible hyper sportscars descended on the 4.7km Spanish venue for a two-day event, with elite machinery from the likes of Lamborghini, Ferrari, McLaren, Pagani and Porsche taking up residence in the GT1 village at the heart of the paddock.
The prestigious new driving programme was showcased on Sunday in the build-up to the Fanatec GT World Challenge Europe Powered by AWS Endurance Cup finale, garnering plenty of attention online across SRO Motorsports Group’s social media platforms and the GTWorld YouTube channel, where a demonstration run was broadcast live worldwide to an overwhelmingly positive response.
Monday marked the full launch of the new concept, which caters exclusively to a breed of hyper sportscars that, were they homologated today, would form the GT1 class.
In a non-competitive format, six 40-minute track sessions were held for an entry list boasting two examples of the Porsche 935, a trio of Lamborghini SCV12 challengers, six McLarens – two 720S GT3X machines, three of Senna GTR models and the boundary-pushing P1 GTR, plus a Ferrari LaFerrari FXX-K and the awe-inspiring Pagani Zonda Revolución.
The on-track experience, matched off-circuit with SRO’s industry-leading hospitality, made for a successful debut for the club, which aims to combine high-level engineering with the spirit of enjoyment at a range of the world’s premier motorsport venues.
Further events will take place across the 2022 and 2023 racing seasons in partnership with Curbstone Events, each staged as part of an SRO weekend with a warm-up and full VIP experience for participants and guests on the Sunday, followed by a full programme of driving on the Monday. In addition to Europe, events in North America, Asia and the Middle East are also in consideration.
“We are delighted with how the inaugural GT1 Sports Club powered by Curbstone Events meeting here at Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya has been received, both by our competitors and the fans alike,” commented SRO’s Founder and CEO, Stéphane Ratel.
“To be able to bring this fantastic collection of hyper sportscars and their owners together for a true celebration of elite engineering, on the same weekend as an entertaining climax to the Fanatec GT World Challenge Powered by AWS season, has been a remarkable success.
“Our focus now is on developing and expanding this concept over the next two seasons alongside Curbstone Events, and I for one cannot wait for the next opportunity to take to the circuit alongside my fellow enthusiasts!”
