LP Racing confirms third full season entry and second Audi for Am attack

LP Racing continues to expand its operations for the second season of the Fanatec GT2 European Series, the Italian team confirming a third full-season entry with another Audi R8 LMS GT2 joining the Am class fight.

Henry Hassid, the 62-year-old former French GT Champion joins the Milan-based outfit for a maiden season aboard LP Racing’s #67 Audi. Migrating to the Fanatec GT2 European Series from the Porsche Carrera Cup France, he brings nearly two decades of experience to the team.

This season will mark the Frenchman’s first return to Audi machinery since 2014, when he took the R8 LMS Ultra to European Le Mans Series GTC victory and second overall in the Championnat de France FFSA GT. Hassid’s substantial list of achievements also includes race wins and podium finishes from the Blancpain Endurance Series, Ferrari Challenge Europe and Ferrari Challenge World Final to name a few.

“It will be a very good season in the GT2 European Series with a very nice team in LP Racing. I was testing the Audi GT2 in Misano this week and it felt very good, the pace is very nice. I think it will be an interesting season.”

The number #67 entry confirms a triple LP Racing campaign for the Fanatec GT2 European Series Am title. Hassid will be joined by fellow newcomers, Michael Doppelmayr and Elia Erhart in the #18 Audi R8 LMS GT2, while 2021 class race winner Leonardo Gorini returns full-time in the #911 Porsche GT2 RS.

The Fanatec GT2 European Series starts its second season of competition at Imola, Italy, on 1-3 April 2022.
