Pierre Kaffer put his #18 LP Racing Audi on pole position ahead of the final Fanatec GT2 European Series race of the weekend at the Autódromo Internacional do Algarve this morning, continuing a stellar fourth round of the season for the Italian team which claimed a 1-2-3 finish in race one yesterday (Saturday).
Kaffer waited until the second half of the 20-minute session to take over from the sister Audi of Anthony Beltoise at the top of the timing screens, a 1:42.840 securing his third pole position of the season.
The intense qualifying session saw a host of drivers take their turn at the top of the order. In the end, it was Stienes Longin who managed to put his PK Carsport Audi on the front row of the grid with a time 0.1s adrift of Kaffer.
Beltoise secure third fastest and will share the second row with Reinhard Kofler’s True Racing KTM X-BOW, while the LP Racing of Mattia di Giusto and Akkodis ASP Mercedes-AMG of Benjamin Ricci complete row three.
One of the first to set the early pace in this morning’s session, Krabec secured his second Am class pole position of the season so far, gaining the RTR Projects driver important points after yesterday’s race on retirement.
The final Fanatec GT2 European Series race of the weekend at Portimao is scheduled for 10:55 BST.
