LP Racing Maserati GT2 duo sweep Free Practice in France

LP Racing got its 2024 season off to a strong start with both of its Maserati GT2 cars leading the way during Free Practice for the Fanatec GT2 European Series Powered by Pirelli season opener at Circuit Paul Ricard.

The Italian team topped the times thanks to the Pro-Am pairing of Leonardo Gorini and Carlo Tamburini, with their best effort of 2m04.654s enough to head a 1-2 for LP Racing in the first 60-minute session.

Philippe Prette in the sister Maserati GT2 was just 0.6s adrift of his team-mates, leading the Am class in the process. Team MZR were second of the Pro-Am teams in third overall with Reinhard Kofler and Martin Koch in their KTM X-BOW.

The #61 Akkodis ASP car of Benjamin Ricci and Mauro Ricci was best of the Mercedes-AMG offering in fourth, the top five rounded out by another KTM of Thomas Andersen and Simon Birch’s #80 Razoon - More Than Racing X-BOW, which stopped out on circuit in the session's only red flag interruption.

Eric De Doncker and Loris Hezemans sat six overall and fifth in Pro-Am for Motorsport 98, ahead of the second-placed Am class runners Akkodis ASP - with Gilles Vannelet and Jean-Luc Beaubelique - to make it three Mercedes-AMG cars in the top seven.

Final preparations for Fanatec GT2 competitors will take place at 13:20 for Pre-Qualifying, ahead of Qualifying at 17:30.
