Records tumbled during a fabulous fourth term for the Fanatec GT2 European Series Powered by Pirelli. A class field delivered both the closest fight for pole position and outright race victory in series history, while record grid numbers showcased GT2 Europe in front of the largest crowds to date.
Let’s recap the key numbers which shaped a remarkable 2024 season:
23 entries
A total of 23 cars competed for success across the Pro-Am and Am classes. While some switched between the classes, 14 contested Pro-Am and 12 fought for Am spoils.
47 drivers
A total of 47 drivers made up the combined Pro-Am and Am class field, five more than last season.
13 nationalities
From those came an increased number of nationalities, with 13 sporting nations represented.
7 manufacturers
Seven of the world’s top brands competed for glory across the campaign, the most manufacturers to have featured in GT2 Europe's history.
Maserati joined full-time after its 2023 introduction, taking the fight to KTM, Mercedes-AMG, Audi and Porsche. The CrowdStrike 24 Hours of Spa event also featured Lamborghini (BDR Competition by Grupo Prom), and Ginetta made its debut with Team CMR.
99,500 spectators
The incredible number of spectators present for the historic double-header in Belgium, as the series supported the centenary edition of the CrowdStrike 24 Hours of Spa in June. GT2 Europe will feature alongside the flagship event once again next year.
18-strong grid
The entry list for the third meeting of the season at Spa-Francorchamps featured 18 cars - a record number for the series in a single meeting since its inception.
2 champions
Reinhard Kofler and Martin Koch of Team MZR were crowned Pro-Am champions after 12 races at six of Europe’s top circuits, while a dramatic final round for the Am title contenders went in favour of LP Racing’s Philippe Prette.
0.002s to pole
Qualifying was a closely fought affair throughout the season, but the gap between first and second couldn’t have been much closer in Misano, where a mere two thousandths of a second separated Carlo Tamburini’s LP Racing Maserati and Reinhard Kofler’s KTM in Q2.
0.072 at the flag
The closest race-winning gap in GT2 European Series history was recorded. Jan Krabec narrowly pipped Martin Koch to give RTR Projects a famous victory, by less than a tenth of a second, at Circuit Paul Ricard in April.
1 new circuit
The series visited one new venue in 2024, as Circuit de Barcelona-Cataluyna hosted a mouth-watering season finale.
5 wins
The highest number of overall - and Pro-Am - wins from 12 races, claimed by Team MZR with their KTM X-BOW GT2. They also finished on the Pro-Am podium in all but one of the 12 races in 2024, in an exceptional display of consistency.
8 winning crews
The number of different driver crews to win races over the two classes during a hugely competitive term of GT2 racing.
5 pole positions
Five was a magic number for Qualifying statistics. The most pole positions by any crew across the season, earned by the rapid #1 LP Racing Maserati GT2 duo of Leonardo Gorini (1) and Carlo Tamburini (4).
On five occasions an Am class crew also claimed outright pole positions. Alexandre Leroy (TFT Racing) did so twice at Spa-Francorchamps and Monza, while Prette also achieved the feat at Misano and Hockenheim. Gilles Vannelet gave Akkodis ASP an outright pole in Barcelona.
16 crews on the podium
An incredible 16 different driver crews graced the podiums across two classes of racing, proving the competition for silverware has hit an all-time peak.
9 Am podiums
The joint-highest number of Am class podium finishes was shared by Leroy and the Akkodis ASP duo of Jean-Luc Beaubelique and Vannelet - standing on the rostrum nine times each.
12 brand wins
Maserati was the most successful brand in terms of class victories in 2024, notching up an impressive 12 triumphs across both categories thanks to LP Racing (9), DINAMIC Motorsport (1) and TFT Racing (2).
6 overall wins
KTM enjoyed the most overall wins for a marque with six. The Austrian brand also scored the most podiums of the year, with its crews earning 27 across both classes. Maserati also ran in close contention, with 25 visits.
100% new lap records
All previous GT2 lap records were broken in 2024. Every circuit had its fastest benchmark lowered, in some cases by over 3 seconds from the previous best.
26 hours
With two hours of Free Practice, two 20-minute Qualifying sessions and a brace of 50-minute races at every round, drivers enjoyed a minimum of 26 hours competitive track time over the year.
302 laps
A breathtaking 302 racing laps were completed across the season, 30 being the highest number clocked in an individual race during the visit to Misano.
5-time champion visits
A five-time DTM champion joined the grid in Barcelona, as Bernd Schneider teamed up with Wim de Pundert in a Bosi Race Tech Mercedes-AMG GT2.
