Eight teams representing 14 entries have already confirmed they will be taking part in GT Sports Club’s exciting new championships in 2021, with seven set to take part in the highly anticipated GT2 European Series and seven lining up in the GT Rebellion Series.
From the four manufacturers expected to be present on the grid of the first-ever all GT2 championship, teams have already confirmed the presence of three of them, with the Audi R8 LMS GT2, KTM X-BOW GT2, and the Porsche 911 GT2 RS Clubsport all set to be represented. In the GT Rebellion Series for GT3 entries, seven entries are already confirmed, with the Ferrari 488 GT3 and 458 GT3, Mercedes AMG GT3, and the Lamborghini Huracan GT3 Evo all featuring.
Announced in October, the GT Sports Club has expanded for the 2021 season after it was forced to cancel the 2020 campaign due to the coronavirus pandemic. The GT2 European Series features two 50-minute sprint races for either single or two-driver entries. The GT Rebellion Series is for the latest GT3 machinery and will see bronze grade driver pairings take on three-hour endurance events.
Entering in the GT2 European Series, Pk Carsport will run two drivers, Peter Guelinckx and Bert Longin, who will both share an Audi R8 LMS GT2. The team was founded in 2004 and contested the FIA GT Championship, where it won six races, including the 2009 24 Hours of Spa. More recently, the team has found success in the NASCAR Whelan Euro Series, winning top class titles in 2016 and 2020.
At least four KTM X-BOW GT2 cars will also feature, run by Austrian outfit True Racing and Reiter Engineering. With a long history of running KTM machinery, True Racing were winners of the 12H Monza in 2020, while they also scored class victories at the 24h Nürburgring, and in the ADAC GT4 Germany’s Hockenheim round. It will mark the first competitive outing for the KTM GT2 car, which has been developed and built this year.
Speed Factory Racing Team will field a Porsche 911 GT2 RS Clubsport for Lithuanian driver Rusteika Aurelijus. The team has contested the European Le Mans Series, 24H Series and Ultimate Cup Series, and this marks their first full-season GT programme commitment. Italian team Villorba Corse are also confirmed for the 2021 GT2 European Series, with their car and drivers to be announced shortly.
In the GT Rebellion Series, Rinaldi Racing will line-up with two Ferrari 488 GT3s and one Ferrari 458 GT3. 2019 GT Sports Club Misano race-winner Christian Hook returns, partnered by fellow German Manuel Lauck, a three-time 24h Nürburgring class winner, in one of the 488 GT3 cars.
Triple Le Mans 24 Hours GT2 class podium finisher and GT World Challenge driver Pierre Ehret is confirmed for the other 488, while the drivers of the 458 GT3 are yet to be announced.
Successful GT outfit Akka ASP also returns to the GT Sports Club paddock, running two Mercedes AMG GT3 cars. The French squad were champions of the series in 2017 with Anthony Pons, but are yet to unveil their driver line-up for next year. Villorba Corse will also enter the GT Rebellion Series, with the car and driver to be announced.
British team Barwell Motorsport are also very close to finalising their plans to run at least one Lamborghini Huracan GT3 Evo into the GT Rebellion Series for 2021, with further details on their drivers set to be unveiled in January.
