Michael Vergers and Aurelijus Rusteika returned the High Class Racing Audi to the top of the Fanatec GT2 European Series field by emerging fastest in a closely-fought final free practice session at the sun-drenched Misano circuit on Friday afternoon.
Vergers delivered a stellar lap of 1:36.142 approaching the final 10 minutes of the one-hour session to steel the top spot by 0.232 seconds from Elia Erhart, who once again ranked fastest of the Am class order in the LP Racing Audi.
In a session that saw multiple crews top the times, Anders Fjordbach was on a mission to break the Audi stronghold in the Brabham BT63 GT2, as the Dane traded P1 times with Erhart before settling for third.
Am leader heading in to the third double-header of the season, Henry Hassid continued his impressive form to clock in fourth overall and P2 in class in the second LP Racing Am Audi. Dimitrios Deverikos and Dmitry Gvazava secured third in the category, on their series debut in the Target Racing Lamborghini.
Winners here last year, the #11 PK Carsport duo of Bert Longin and Peter Guelinckx had a promising session, both drivers taking a spell at the top of the timing screens in their respective stint before settling for fifth. Hot on their heels, just 0.049s adrift was another of the session’s leading cars, the #88 LP Racing Audi of Luca Pirri and Stéphane Ratel, to complete the top six.
Qualifying for the third Fanatec GT2 European Series double header of the season takes place at 19:10 CEST this evening.
