True Racing & KTM top first Red Bull Ring session

Team True Racing and KTM got their home Fanatec GT2 European Series event off to the strongest possible start at the Red Bull Ring this morning, with Hubert Trunkenpolz and Reinhard Kofler topping a tight first free practice session ahead of round two in Austria this weekend.

The #17 KTM X-BOW moved to the head of the field in the closing stages of the 60-minute session, Kofler posting an initial best time of 1:30.446 only to improve to a 1:30.300 come the chequered flag.

Finishing a close second was the sister #15 True Racing entry of Nicolas Saelens and Stefan Rosina, who led the field ahead Kofler’s final charge. Their time of 1:30.513 was just three thousandths of a second quicker than the #1 PK Carsport Audi of Peter Guelinckx and Stienes Longin.

One of the seven Austrian drivers competing this weekend, Michael Doppelmayr and teammate Pierre Kaffer clocked in fourth fastest ahead of the #61 Akkodis ASP Team Mercedes-AMG GT2 which makes its series debut in Austria.

Leading the Am contingent was current class leader and two-time race winner at Monza, Jan Krabec in the RTR Projects KTM. Team True Racing’s second all-Austrian driver pairing of Klaus Angerhofer and Sehdi Sarmini clocked in second fastest, with the #5 Ebimotors Porsche of Arelijus Rusteika and Mantas Janavicius completing the Am top three.

The Fanatec GT2 European Series field continues preparations for round two with a second free practice session at 13:00, ahead of qualifying at 16:35 this afternoon.
