It was all change at the top of the Fanatec GT2 European Series in the final free practice session at the Red Bull Ring this afternoon, with a late charge from two of the LP Racing Audis locking out the top spots in Austria.
The #18 Audi R8 LMS of Michael Doppelmayr and Pierre Kaffer claimed the fastest time of the 60-minute session, their best effort of 1:30.333 securing the top spot from the sister car of Henry Hassid and Anthony Beltoise by just 0.080 seconds.
The third-placed PK Carsport Audi of Peter Guelinckx and Stienes Longin clocked in just two tenths away, giving a good indication of just how close the racing will be again this weekend.
Having set the pace for more than half of the second session of the day in the #17 KTM, Hubert Trunkenpolz and Reinhard Kofler slotted into fourth fastest overall, 0.066s ahead of Benjamin and Mauro Ricci in the Akkodis ASP Mercedes on their series debut.
In the Am category, meanwhile, True Racing’s Klaus Angerhofer and Sehdi Sarmini set the pace in the #16 KTM, chased by Aurelijus Rusteika and Manatas Janvicius in the #5 Ebimotors Porsche.
Current leader of the Am championship standings after round one at Monza, Jan Krabec rounded out the class top three for RTR Projects.
Next up in Austria, two 20-minute qualifying sessions at 16:35 will set the grids for Sunday’s pair of 50-minute races.
