Mičánek Motorsport powered by Buggyra dig deep for double pole position at Spa-Francorchamps

Mičánek Motorsport powered by Buggyra put in a dominant display in tricky conditions to take a double pole position in Qualifying for round three of the GT2 European Series powered by Pirelli at Spa-Francorchamps.

The Lamborghini Huracan Super Trofeo Evo 2 duo of Bronek Formanek and Stefan Rosina grabbed individual spoils in both their respective sessions, held on a wet track in the Ardennes. Formanek was first to strike in Q1 with a strong opening lap around the iconic 7km circuit, but it was his effort of 2:34.914s late on that sealed the deal for pole position by just over 0.7s over nearest rival Philippe Prette.

Prette was therefore quickest of the Am class contenders as reward for another strong performance, and the LP Racing man bumped the similar Pro-Am Maserati GT2 of DINAMIC Motorsport’s Roberto Pampanini down to row two in doing so.

Another impressive brace of Am class runners followed closely as Petr Lisa powered his #789 RTR Projects KTM X-Bow into the top four overall, ahead of solo driver Oliver Freymuth (AKF Motorsport Lamborghini) in a strong outing for the latter. Alberto De Martin was next up for NM Racing Team in the #115 Mercedes-AMG that he shares with Nil Montserrat.

Gianluca Giorgi climbed to seventh place in the LP Racing Audi R8 LMS GT2, with Davit Kajaia rounding out the top eight despite a spin early on in the #89 RTR Projects KTM exiting Le Combes.

Conditions worsened when drivers ventured out shortly afterwards for Q2, meaning initial lap times proved critical. Rosina was quick to adapt and pumped in a time of 2:33.898s, to confirm a double pole for the Pro-Am championship leaders in Belgium.

Mato Homola battled against the wettest conditions to charge up to second late on for the #89 RTR Projects crew, with 0.7s once again the cushion between the top two. His effort demoted an equally rapid Mauro Calamia to third - matching the result of his DINAMIC Motorsport co-driver, Pampanini.

A flying Daniele Cazzaniga put his and Giorgi’s Audi up into fourth place meanwhile, confirming a Pro-Am sweep of the top four places on the grid for race two. Best of the Am class was again Prette in the LP Racing Maserati, beating the Pro-Am Mercedes-AMG of Montserrat to fifth overall. Seventh went to Freymuth, ahead of Viktor Mraz who took over from Lisa in the second RTR Projects KTM.

The first of two 60-minute GT2 Europe encounters at Spa-Francorchamps gets underway this afternoon at 14:55 CEST. Watch it live via the GT World YouTube channel right here.
