Schnitzelalm leads the AMG fightback in second practice

Result: Free Practice 2, Spa

Pro-Am points leaders Jay Mo Härtling and David Thilenius emerged fastest from a stormy second Free Practice session at Spa-Francorchamps.

After Ginettas had set the pace in the early session, the German marque returned to the front thanks to Härtling taking advantage of the best of changing track conditions. Light rain began to fall just before the track went green, making for a slow start as many opted to play it safe and wait for the shower to end before venturing out.

Ethan Gialdini’s Ginetta set the first benchmark before trading the top time with Antoine Potty’s Maserati. Nil Montserrat then took a turn out front as the track began to dry, with the NM Racing Team boss setting two outright fastest laps before Härtling made the decisive move, pulling 0.7s on the field just before the rain returned and the #898 MZR KTM spun into the barrier at Malmedy bringing out the red flags.

Although the session resumed with 10 minutes remaining, there were few improvements, cementing SR Motorsport by Schnitzelelam’s place at the head of the timesheets.

FP1 pace-setter Mikkel Njor was one who did make a move after the restart, jumping to second ahead of Montserrat/Alberto de Martin with his final effort to deny Mercedes-AMG a one-two. Njor and Gialdini also led the Silver class times.

Laura van den Hengel and Sarah Bovy showed they are already up to speed in their new Maserati for this weekend by claiming fourth spot for Iron Dames by SP Racing, ahead of Stefan Rosina/Louis Prette in LP Racing’s Audi.

Oliver Freymuth set the fastest time in the Masters category, the German driver’s AKF Lamborghini finishing ahead of Philippe Prette’s Maserati and the CMR Huracan shared by Rodrigue Gillion and Alexis Berthet.

Qualifying takes place at 10:50 local time on Saturday.
