2026 ENTRY: SR Motorsport by Schnitzelalm set for GT2 Europe debut with twin Mercedes-AMGs

Top German GT team SR Motorsport by Schnitzelalm will make its debut in the GT2 European Series powered by Pirelli this season fielding twin Mercedes-AMG GT2s.

The Allgäu-based team has been a standout entry in both the ADAC GT Masters and GT4 Germany across recent seasons, and last year alone celebrated four title triumphs in GT4 Germany with the Drivers’, Junior and Rookie titles plus finishing top of the Road to DTM contest.

For 2026 the team is expanding into international competition, and has added two new Mercedes-AMG GT2s to its stable, furthering the team’s successful partnership with the Stuttgart brand.

Both cars will compete in the Pro-Am class, with American David Thilenius and German Wilhelm Kühne confirmed as the first two drivers. Their team-mates will be revealed soon.

Thilenius boasts huge GT racing experience and is a long-term driver for Schnitzelalm, having competed in every Nürburgring 24 Hours since 2021 with the team. He also finished second in class in last year’s 6 Hours of Barcelona in one of Schnitzelalm’s Mercedes-AMG GT4s.

Kühne graduates to GT2 having impressed in GT4 in recent years, winning the 2025 GT4 Winter Series in a Schnitzelalm Porsche and competing in the Porsche Sprint Challenge Germany.

This is not the first time Schnitzelalm has operated GT2 machinery. In 2023 the team completed the Nürburgring 24 Hours with a Mercedes-AMG GT2 – with Thilenius as one of the drivers – finishing second in the SPX class. It has also entered an AMG GT2 in the recent 6 Hours of Portimão with both Thilenius and Kühne helping the team to a class victory.

Powered by a mighty 4-litre BiTurbo V8 producing in excess of 700bhp, The Mercedes-AMG GT2 represents the most powerful homologated race car in the history of Mercedes-AMG Customer Racing. First introduced to the GT2 field for 2023, the Mercedes-AMG GT2 has proven a potent weapon, scoring multiple pole positions, race wins and even a lap record.

As a registered manufacturer for the new SRO GT Academy initiative, Silver-graded AMG drivers aged under 30 stand a chance at winning a fully-funded (excluding crash damage) seat in the 2027 GT World Europe Endurance Cup with an AMG Customer Racing Team.

With a proven winning record, SR Motorsport by Schnitzelalm aims to hit the ground running in its first GT2 European Series campaign.

Team head Thomas Angerer said: “I think the GT2 European Series is a great racing series for our gentleman drivers, and is somewhere they can really enjoy themselves. It’s great that they have their own competition among the amateur drivers. I also think it's great for the amateur drivers that the driving standards are high and that the racing is fair.

“At the same time, I think it's a superb opportunity for our talented young Silver drivers to gain visibility through the SRO GT Academy and the GT World Challenge cockpit, which is up for grabs. I believe that this gives Silver drivers a good opportunity to showcase their talents and that it's a better way to start than jumping straight into a GT3 car.”

The GT2 European Series powered by Pirelli season gets underway at Monza across the weekend of May 29-31.
