MZR confirms its return to the grid with a pair of KTMs

MZR Motorsportzentrum Ried will return to the GT2 European Series powered by Pirelli grid this year with twin KTM X-Bow GT2s.

The Austrian squad last competed during the 2025 season finale at Circuit de Catalunya Barcelona with Marius Aigner and Reinhard Kofler sharing its single car. That pairing will return in Pro-Am for 2026, with a new sister car set to compete in the Masters class shared by drivers Jack Russel and Max Grip.

MZR has a strong history within GT2 Europe, having won both the Pro-Am Drivers’ and Teams’ titles back in 2024 with Kofler celebrating five race wins alongside Martin Koch.

Russel and Grip will both make the step up into GT2 for the first time this year having competed with MZR in the GT Cup Europe last season. Grip finished second in that series’ Sprint Cup GTX points last year, with Russel third and Aigner fourth. Kofler won the Endurance Cup class title with Grip third in the points.

Now with two KTMs ready for action, the team is aiming high once again this season.

MZR said in a statement: “Following the successful campaigns of recent years, MZR is consistently expanding its commitment to the GT2 category. The series is regarded as one of the most exciting platforms in European GT racing, bringing together spectacular cars, professional teams, and renowned racetracks across Europe.

“By entering two cars, we aim not only to compete at the highest sporting level, but also to further develop the team on the international stage. The combination of technical expertise, experienced team members, and strong motivation is expected to provide the foundation for a successful season.

“The GT2 European Series offers us the perfect platform to compete against strong international teams at the highest level. With two cars, we want to further strengthen our presence and consistently fight for top positions.

“For MZR, the focus is not only on sporting success, but also on establishing ourselves as a high-performance team in international GT racing over the long term. Fans can look forward to an exciting season featuring thrilling battles, powerful cars, and top-class competition.”

The GT2 European Series powered by Pirelli season begins at Monza in Italy across the weekend of May 29-31.
